Slow Thinking In The Age Of Insta Dopamine : Writing In The Era Of Reels & Vlogs

The world now moves with a restless thumb https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog, where we swipe, scroll, and skip in an endless cycle. Our thoughts often don’t linger long, and moments of silence feel jarring, reminding us of our craving for genuine connection. Welcome to “Slow Thinking In The Age Of Insta Dopamine: Writing In The Era Of Reels & Vlogs.”

Everything today asks for speed. Quick reactions, quick opinions, quick content, quick emotions. Slow thinking does not fit easily into this system. Yet, that quiet resistance is exactly what keeps writing alive.

writing in the era of reels & vlogs : slow thinking in the age of insta dopamine

Blogging is often seen as a different journey than social media, prompting questions about its relevance. While reels and short videos capture attention quickly, do blogs foster lasting connections, or do they inevitably fade away? Although blogging provides trust, is that trust genuinely deep, or just superficial? This distinction appears clear, yet does it resonate in our daily lives?

Reels resemble fast food: quick, flashy, and requiring zero commitment. A few mindless minutes of scrolling inundate the mind with images, but at what cost? No effort or patience is needed, and nothing invites pause or reflection. While the fleeting content may gratify temporarily, it vanishes almost immediately, replaced by the next video, creating a relentless cycle of enjoyment that is rarely enduring.

Blogs are often compared to home-cooked meals, but are they really that nourishing? They require excessive time to prepare and comprehend, leading one to question their worth. Designed for ‘quiet engagement’, this might just be a euphemism for boredom. A reader processes thoughts at a snail’s pace, giving the illusion of depth, yet lacking real substance. The experience may feel personal, but do the words linger, or are they quickly forgotten?

People consume fast food for convenience but romanticize home-cooked meals as the pinnacle of comfort. A similar trend appears in content consumption: while reels occupy fleeting boredom, can they compare to the depth of blogs? Fast content may keep the mind engaged, but does slow writing offer anything substantial for the mind?

this hardly makes the reels unnecessary : writing in the ers of reels & vlogs

This hardly makes reels unnecessary. Sure, fast content has its moments; it may entertain or provide quick relief in brief spans of time. But can it really hold a candle to blogs? Blogs claim to create connections, build trust, and offer meaning that supposedly lingers beyond the fleeting instant. Both may coexist, but do they truly meet different needs, or is that just a comforting narrative we tell ourselves?

Blogging doesn’t really vibe with the whole ‘instant’ thing, right? It’s about slow, meaningful moments, but who has the time? It sneaks up on you, building familiarity over time. Readers might not flood in; those who do often feel they should check it out, not because they genuinely want to. They take breaks when bored and only return if they think they need that chill space again.

Not everyone will bother to read. Not everyone will prioritize words over mindless scrolling. But perhaps a few will. The reality is that many people grow weary of the incessant noise and might seek a semblance of steadiness and thoughtfulness. Yet, when they come across writing that claims to speak clearly and honestly, it’s uncertain whether they’ll genuinely stick around. Even if a handful of such readers exist, does it truly create any meaningful impact for the writer?

In a world of fast food content, one might wonder if a home-cooked meal is truly a strength or just a tedious choice. Creating something steady and thoughtful seems noble, yet as Reels come and go, can we trust that blogs hold any significance? People might scroll through fast content daily, but will they recall the words that offered them clarity, or are those just fleeting thoughts lost in digital noise?

Slow writing seems to be struggling to keep up with the rapid-fire content that’s taken over the scene. Sure, it might attempt to coexist, but really, who actually cares about depth, patience, and meaning in this frantic world? That so-called quiet presence raises doubts about whether it can truly sustain blogging for much longer.
