The Story Of Diwali : Unraveling

Diwali falls in the Aippasi month of the Hindu calendar, typically in late October or early November. It is an auspicious time for celebration, occurring on the new moon day, known as Amavasya. The festival’s origins date back over 2,500 years to ancient India and are believed to be a fusion of various traditional harvest festivals, culminating in the vibrant and joyous occasion we now know as Diwali.

The main story behind Diwali is the return of Lord Rama, Goddess Seetha, and Lord Lakshmana to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. This tale symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and highlights Lord Rama’s admirable qualities. The narrative delves into the preparations for Rama’s coronation, the support he received from the people, and the influences that led to conflict within the kingdom.

King Dasaratha, driven by the poisoned mind of Kaikeyi, was forced to crown Bharatha as king and banish Lord Rama to the forest for fourteen years. His family members expressed their desire to accompany him, but Rama asked them to fulfill their duties in Ayodhya. The trio’s departure caused great sadness among the people of Ayodhya. King Dasaratha, unable to bear the separation, wept uncontrollably and eventually succumbed to his grief. The brothers returned to a desolate Ayodhya upon learning of their father’s death. Kaikeyi, initially rejoicing at her son’s new role, later became dismayed upon learning about her sons’ forced exile, leaving the kingdom in sorrow and uncertainty.

Lord Bharatha, deeply upset about his father’s death and his brothers’ unfair exile, prevented his brothers from acting against Lord Rama’s values. Instead, he focused on bringing Rama back and restoring justice. Bharatha embarked on a challenging journey to the forest with Lakshmana and Goddess Sita to reunite with Lord Rama.
