Pre Weekend Wonders : Off The Beaten Path

Exploring Niagara is a dream for anyone visiting the United States and Canada. Spending a day or even a couple, there is an activity not to be missed. With the first Monday of September being Labor Day, the weekend becomes an extended one.

As we’re having a super long weekend in Canada, we’ve decided to spend a day at Niagara Falls, even though we’ve been there four times before! But this time, we’re gonna check out some of the hidden gems that we missed on our earlier trips.

Our Trip To Niagaras : Off Beaten Path

Starting our adventure early, we hopped on the subway at North York Centre, heading south towards Union Station. The ride was smooth and quick, taking about 26 minutes. As we arrived at Union Station, the hustle and bustle of commuters filled the air, a typical scene for a Friday morning.

With our brunch in hand, we boarded the train to Burlington. The train was packed, especially up to Exhibition Station, where an ongoing exhibition had drawn a large crowd. Despite the crowd, the excitement of the journey kept our spirits high. As we passed Exhibition, the train gradually emptied, and we finally found seats, making it easier to enjoy our brunch.

The journey to Burlington took about an hour and we savored our meal while watching the scenery change from urban landscapes to more suburban views. Upon reaching Burlington, we disembarked and headed to the bus terminal, ready for the next leg of our trip.

The roads were jam-packed with cars, all heading towards Niagara Falls, a popular destination for the long weekend. Despite the traffic, our bus ride was comfortable, and we enjoyed the anticipation of the adventures ahead. After about an hour and a half, we finally arrived at Niagara Falls, ready to start our exploration of this iconic destination.

Attractions At The Less Taken Path : Pre Weekend Wonders

After arriving at Niagara Falls, we decided to make the most of the local public transport by purchasing a WEGO pass. This convenient hop-on, hop-off bus service connects all the major attractions in the area. Our first stop was the Queen Victoria Place Restaurant, we headed towards one of Niagara’s most iconic landmarks, the Skylon Tower.

At the Skylon Tower, we bought our tickets and took the thrilling ride to the top observation deck. The view was absolutely breathtaking, offering a 360-degree panorama of the city of Niagara Falls and beyond. The wind was strong at the top, adding to the excitement of the experience.

After descending from the Skylon Tower, we hopped back on the WEGO bus to continue our exploration of the city. As we rode around, we were fortunate enough to witness a stunning rainbow arching over the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, a sight that lingered for quite some time and added a magical touch to our day.

Our next stop took us to the Table Rock Centre, and we couldn’t help but think, “Why not give Niagara’s Fury a try?” This incredible 4D ride completely blew us away with its captivating journey through the formation of Niagara Falls, inclusive of moving floors, splashing water, and wind effects. As the experience came to an end, we found ourselves completely drenched, but hey, it was so thrilling and absolutely unforgettable!

Returning To Toronto : Off Beaten Path

After our exploration, we decided to take the Falls Incline Railway down to the lower level. The ride was quick and offered a unique perspective of the falls. Once at the bottom, we strolled through Clifton Hill, enjoying the vibrant atmosphere and various attractions. We decided to grab dinner at Subway, a quick and satisfying meal to refuel for the rest of our journey.

Unfortunately, due to some confusion and road blockages, we missed the public transport that would take us to the GO station. Determined not to let this setback ruin our day, we decided to walk from the falls to the GO Bus terminal. The walk was long and exhausting, and as the day drew to a close, it felt a bit eerie and scary.

We missed the direct train to Toronto Union Station, but we were determined to catch the 9:24 PM GO bus to Burlington. Despite our worries about missing it, luck was on our side, and we managed to board the bus just in time. We reached Burlington around 11 PM, feeling a mix of relief and exhaustion.

It was a quick dash to catch the train to Toronto Union Station, but we made it. The train ride was smooth, and we arrived at Union Station around 12:15 AM. From there, we took an Uber ride home, finally reaching around 1:15 AM. It was a long and eventful day, but the memories of our adventures at Niagara Falls made it all worthwhile.

Conclusion

As we finally arrived home, exhausted but exhilarated, we couldn’t help but ponder on the incredible day we had. From the breathtaking views at Skylon Tower to the unexpected rainbow over the Horseshoe Falls, every moment was filled with wonder and excitement. Despite the challenges and unexpected turns, like missing our transport and the long walk to the GO Bus terminal, our determination and a bit of luck saw us through.

The journey back, though tiring, was a testament to our adventurous spirit and resilience. Reaching home at 1:15 AM, we were ready to rest and recharge, but the memories of our unique pre-weekend exploration of Niagara Falls would stay with us for a long time. It was a day of discovery, fun, and a few surprises, making it a perfect start to the long weekend.
