Forming emotional connections https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attachment_theory, with objects, people, and experiences is a natural part of being human. This attachment begins in childhood with cherished toys and close family, expanding to include friendships and treasured memories. Welcome to “Youthful Keepsake : A Sentimental Connection”.
Many of us keep childhood mementos into adulthood. These items evoke positive emotions and connect us to our past. My most treasured childhood keepsake is Carnatic Music. In this blog post, I’m excited to share a personal story about an emotional connection to music.

Music as a Youthful Keepsake
My journey with Carnatic music started in second grade, a time filled with curiosity and wonder. I had the privilege of learning this beautiful art form for six transformative years, from second to eighth grade, alongside my sister. Our dedicated tutor would come to our home in my hometown every Monday and Thursday evening, creating a warm, nurturing environment that fostered our love for music.
As soon as we returned from school, we would begin our hour-long music lesson. Over time, I experienced firsthand how music can calm the mind, ease anxiety, and help relieve the stress brought on by unexpected events. Carnatic music, especially, became both a discipline and a source of emotional comfort for me.
Music has been an integral part of my life—a priceless treasure and my most meaningful youthful keepsake. Whether instrumental or vocal, its therapeutic power in supporting emotional well-being and even aiding the healing process of various ailments is truly remarkable.

In my culture, its importance is especially evident during festive occasions such as Navaratri, when Carnatic music plays a central role in our devotional practices and spiritual celebrations. The intricate rhythms and melodic patterns not only evoke deep emotional responses but also connect us with our rich heritage and traditions.

It serves as a source of inspiration and strength, reminding me of my roots while encouraging me to share this beautiful legacy with future generations.
Through teaching and performance, I hope to cultivate a greater appreciation for Carnatic music, fostering a sense of belonging and community among those who participate in these time-honored practices. By sharing the intricate rhythms, melodic structures, and profound philosophies that define this traditional art form.
I aim to bridge generational gaps and connect diverse individuals who share a passion for music. Furthermore, I envision creating a supportive environment where learners of all levels can explore their artistic expression, develop their skills, and collaborate with one another in an enriching atmosphere.
This journey not only enhances individual creativity but also strengthens communal ties, creating a vibrant cultural tapestry that celebrates our shared heritage. Through workshops, performances, and open discussions, I aspire to inspire a deeper understanding and love for Carnatic music, ensuring its legacy endures for future generations.
