Devotion and Traditions: Celebrations

Lord Ganesh, my mischievous life coach https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganesh_Chaturthi, brightens my adventures during Ganesh Chaturthi, my favorite excuse for an all-you-can-eat buffet! The air is filled with chanting and giggles, wrapping me in his blessings like a warm ladoo. Welcome to “Devotion And Traditions: Celebrations!”—a heartwarming look at my escapades with Ganesh Chaturthi and Mangala Gowri Vratham!

For me, the devotion behind Mangala Gowri Vratham and Ganesh Chaturthi is deeply personal. These sacred rituals are not just customs; they are milestones in my spiritual journey with Lord Ganesh and Maa Gauri, reminding me to trust, surrender, and stay strong through every season of life.

Mangala Gowri Vratham & Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations: My Devotion, Traditions & Emotions

Ganesh Chaturthi and Mangala Gowri Vratham have become powerful celebrations of women’s strength in my life. Mangala Gowri Vratham, in particular, reminds me of Maa Gauri’s unwavering determination to win the love of Lord Shiva. As I sit for the vratham, I feel connected to generations of women before me, performing these rituals with faith, praying for harmony, protection, and blessings in married life.

The day before Mangala Gowri Vratham is always special for me. I head out to shop for fresh betel leaves, fruits, flowers, and colorful bangles, feeling the excitement slowly build. Preparing thamboolam packages with these auspicious items for my maternal aunties and loved ones, arranging them carefully in bamboo trays, becomes my way of sharing joy, gratitude, and devotion. Every small detail feels like a love letter to tradition.

This year’s Mangala Gowri Vratham in Toronto was an incredibly soul-stirring and grounding experience for me. With every grain of lemon rice, each crispy Paruppu Vada, and the luscious sweet payasam, I infused my heart and spirit into the dishes, envisioning them as heartfelt offerings laid at the feet of the Divine Goddess.

As the pooja gracefully approached its serene conclusion, we poured our souls into fervent prayers to Lord Ganesh and the Goddess; tying the sacred amulet, I was enveloped by a profound sense of warmth and safety, a vivid reminder that I am passionately shielded, steered, and cradled by their magnificent divine grace.

Ganesh Chaturthi: Heartfelt Celebrations & Traditions

Ganesh Chaturthi, or Lord Ganesh’s Pooja, is one of the most joyful celebrations for me, wherever I am. I set up the idol, decorate with flowers and lamps, and perform the pooja, feeling my worries melt away. Preparing homemade treats like Modhakam fills my home with a sweet aroma, and each bite shares happiness with him.

Over time, I’ve started using clay Ganesh idols for eco-friendliness, knowing that my devotion can also honor nature. Here in Toronto, Ganesh Chaturthi connects me back to my roots, my childhood, and my family. After the pooja, when we immerse the idol in water, I always feel a lump in my throat—like saying goodbye, yet knowing he will return next year.

Celebrating Mangala Gowri Vratham and Ganesh Chaturthi fills my heart with love and gratitude. As we offer neivedyam and share prasadam, I feel our families unite in devotion to Lord Ganesh and Maa Gauri. These festivals remind me to honor my roots and embrace the traditions that shape who I am. Every chant and offering is my way of thanking them for their blessings.
