Road Tripping To Kerala : Chasing Horizons
The Adventure Begins : We left Chennai before sunrise, the city still half-asleep and the sky painted in pastels. This early start added excitement to our road trip. Each kilometer lightened my heart as the noise of the city faded. We stopped for a simple breakfast of hot idlis and chutney, sharing stories under a tree. The car was filled with laughter and music. By the time we reached Erode, the warmth of home and hugs from family made the long drive worthwhile.
Entering Erode : As we neared Erode, our GPS occasionally lost signal, creating both worry and humor on our trip. The locals kindly helped us find our way through the unknown streets. Once home, I enjoyed reconnecting with family—full of smiles, laughter, and a warm sense of belonging. Evening coffee felt special as we relaxed, sharing stories from the road. After a tasty dinner, I woke up refreshed and excited to explore Erode with my loved ones.
Adventure At The Dam : Road Tripping To Kerala
Road Tripping To Mazhampuzha Dam: Our Kerala road trip continued from Erode to Mazhampuzha Dam, starting with a refreshing shower and a hearty breakfast. Traveling in two cars made it enjoyable as we shared jokes. We packed tamarind rice, curd rice, snacks, and water, knowing food and comfort were vital. As we neared Mazhampuzha Dam, I felt excited about the calm waters and Kerala’s scenic beauty.

A Delightful Lunch Amidst Nature : Upon arriving at the dam, we parked safely and stepped into nature’s embrace. The fresh air made time feel slower. We enjoyed our homemade tamarind rice, curd rice, and snacks under the open sky. Sharing a meal in such beauty filled me with contentment, as we laughed and savored every bite, creating lasting memories.

after lunch we explored mazhampuzha dam & charming surroundings : chasing horizons
Exploring The Serene Gardens And Boating Adventure: After lunch, we explored Mazhampuzha Dam and its charming surroundings. The gardens, with colorful flowers and lush greenery, created a calm ambience. As we boated on the shimmering waters, the cool breeze brushed my face, and the views reflected like a painting. The staff provided life jackets, helping us feel safe and allowing us to enjoy the ride, laughter, and quiet togetherness.

Kalpathy Temple : A Spiritual Experience : A key part of our road trip to Kerala was visiting the Kalpathy Viswanatha Swami Temple in Palakkad. As I entered the temple grounds, I felt a strong sense of devotion and history—the architecture, the chants, and the calm atmosphere made it a meaningful spiritual experience. Even when we faced a heavy downpour and a flat tire after our visit, we stayed optimistic.
Drenched in rain, we still found reasons to smile and be thankful for the day. Our ever-reliable “captain” uncle handled the flat tire with calm confidence, turning a potential setback into just another story we now fondly remember. Thanks to his quick thinking, we were able to continue our journey safely back, hearts full and faith renewed.
Festival & Returning Back : Chasing Horizons

Celebrating The Tamil New Year : Our break from Chennai concluded with a day celebrating Tamil New Year on April 14th. The house felt festive as we arranged fruits like banana, mango, and jackfruit, symbolizing joy for the year ahead. Rituals and prayers filled our home, and a special lunch with family reminded us of togetherness. Surrounded by loved ones, I felt grateful for the joy of family.
Bidding Emotional Goodbyes : As we prepared to return to Chennai, I felt a mix of sadness and fullness. Our journey was filled with excitement, challenges, and peaceful moments at the dam and Kalpathy Temple. The flat tire, unexpected rain, and late-night return added memorable moments to our trip. The laughter and surprises have left a special place in my heart, reminding me why I love road trips through Kerala with my family.
Conclusion
Looking back on this Kerala road trip, I realize it was more than just the places we visited; it was the laughter, meals, and moments that made our journey special. Every turn revealed new sights—fields, misty hills, and calm waters—leaving a memorable mark. This trip from Chennai to Kerala is a cherished memory that shows how travel, family, and faith create unforgettable experiences.
