Exploring Paradise: Kerala Resort Adventure

Kerala, often called God’s Own Country, is a dream destination in India for a relaxed family resort vacation, with palm-fringed beaches, serene backwaters, and lush greenery everywhere you look. We stayed at the beautiful Isola De Coco Resort, a peaceful escape that felt like a slice of paradise. Our recent trip was a heartwarming mix of family bonding, spiritual stops, and nature-filled moments. Welcome to “Exploring Paradise: Kerala Resort Adventure”—our emotional journey through one of India’s most magical family travel destinations.

Our adventure began with a simple plan: a family trip to our temple in Valliyoor, Tamil Nadu, followed by a relaxing stay at a Kerala family resort. After booking our rooms on Agoda and arranging rides for everyone, we were all set for the nearly 500 km journey together. It wasn’t just about getting from one place to another—it was about traveling as a family, sharing stories, snacks, and laughter along the way.

Kerala Resort Adventure: Exploring Paradise as a Family

Our journey truly started after my cousin’s engagement in Chennai. We booked tickets from Chennai to Erode, giving ourselves a comfortable break before the long road trip. Once we reached Erode, we rested for the night and then set off the next morning in a van arranged by the family—one vehicle, all of us together, exactly how a family road trip should feel.

We stopped for breakfast at a hotel on the way, then later enjoyed a relaxed meal and a little shopping at a boutique hotel. Passing by our family deity temple filled me with a quiet sense of comfort and connection. Near Valliyoor, we paused for tea and captured a beautiful hill behind the temple—a simple moment that felt deeply grounding and memorable.

Crossing the Tamil Nadu–Kerala border, the landscape slowly changed, growing greener and more tropical, until we finally reached Isola De Coco Resort in Poovar, Kerala, after a long but meaningful drive. After check-in and dinner, the weariness of travel began to fade, replaced by excitement.

the next morning we are having to a delightful keralite breakfast : kerala resort adventure

The next morning, we were treated to a delightful Keralite breakfast with traditional flavors, along with continental options for everyone’s preferences—perfect for a multigenerational family group. With our hearts and stomachs full, we began exploring the resort, strolling through the property and capturing photos by the pool, trying to freeze these happy family moments in time.

After our refreshing time at the pool, we had lunch at the resort’s restaurant and then took some time to simply rest—one of the underrated joys of a family resort holiday in Kerala. In the evening, we set out to explore Azhimala, home to an awe-inspiring 58-foot Shiva statue that left us feeling humbled and spiritually moved.

Later, we headed toward Kovalam Beach. Although it grew dark quickly and we couldn’t spend as much time there as we’d hoped, we still managed to enjoy the sound of the waves and the sea breeze. On our way back, we stopped for dinner at a restaurant, ending the day with shared plates, tired smiles, and content hearts.

Kanyakumari & Return to Chennai: Completing Our Kerala Resort Adventure

On our last day at the resort, we had hoped to visit our family deity’s temple again, but due to pandemic rules, we weren’t allowed to enter. Instead, we prayed sincerely at the entrance, and in that quiet moment, I felt that distance didn’t lessen our devotion. From there, we continued our journey to Kanyakumari, a place where the meeting of the seas and the promise of stunning sunrises and sunsets make it a must-visit on many South India family itineraries.

Although we couldn’t fully experience the sunrise or sunset this time, just being there felt special. We also viewed Gandhi Mandap and Vivekananda Rock from afar—iconic landmarks that added a touch of history and reflection to our coastal route.

as our kerala family resort trip drew to a close : exploring paradise

As our Kerala family resort trip drew to a close, we stopped for lunch before the rest of the family continued back toward Erode. From Tirunelveli, my husband and I booked our return tickets to Chennai. After a simple tea break and heartfelt conversations, it was time for emotional goodbyes. We hugged our family, feeling that bittersweet mix of gratitude and sadness that comes at the end of a truly meaningful journey.

We boarded a night train to Chennai and reached the next morning, while our family arrived in Erode around midnight. With that, our joyful trip officially came to an end. Kerala had truly lived up to its title of God’s Own Country, gifting us not just beautiful views but also moments, stories, and connections we will carry in our hearts forever.

Looking back on this Kerala resort adventure, I felt a profound connection to both nature and our cultural roots. The lush landscapes, calm backwaters, and gentle coastal breeze wrapped us in a sense of peace that’s hard to put into words. The warmth of the people we met—hotel staff, drivers, locals—added a quiet kindness to our journey

final thoughts

.Visiting our family deity temple, even from a distance, and seeing places like Kanyakumari and Azhimala brought a deep sense of spiritual fulfillment. This trip didn’t just show us Kerala’s natural beauty; it deepened my appreciation for our traditions, faith, and the comfort of traveling with family.

For us, this Kerala resort vacation wasn’t just about ticking off destinations or staying at a beautiful property—it was about creating lasting memories with the people we love most. From early-morning journeys and shared meals to quick tea breaks and quiet prayers, every moment felt meaningful. Traveling together reminded us how powerful these family experiences can be, especially in a place as enchanting as Kerala. As I think back on this trip, I’m convinced that family travel in Kerala is more than a holiday—it’s an opportunity to slow down, reconnect, and gather stories that will stay with us for a lifetime.
